It’s very important for a mobile phone manufacturer to look into the future, think outside the box and come up with something new and innovative that will appeal to customers instead of re-vamped versions of old products.

And at the moment, there probably are several such manufacturers that aren’t doing this at all. One of them is Motorola
that refuses to leave the past aside and has now announced a new version of the Startac, the Startac III MS900.

When the first Startac was released, in 1996, it was incredibly popular and the first clamshell mobile phone available on the market.

US wireless carrier Verizon Wireless has officially announced its plans to launch the highly anticipated V CAST mobile TV service on the 1st of March.

Considering that it’s just a couple of days away, US customers will
soon be able to enjoy it on their own mobile phones. But when it comes to details, things are a little bit vaguer than expected.

The carrier hasn’t offered any other information except for the launch date and the fact that it will be available only ‘in select markets’. Maps don’t currently show coverage of major markets such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Diego or Las Vegas.

According to Verizon’s previous statement, its mobile TV service was to have an “initial launch in many major U.S. markets” by the end of the first quarter of the year.

To make your own impressions on how the real thing I was writing about here works, watch the video bellow

The thing that remained to prove the iPhone is a revolutionary piece of device is its multi-touch tactile user interface. This will probably be the thing to attract most of the buyers of the yet to be released Apple communication device but, as we have learned since it has been released, its interface is a thing extremely easy to copy.

At the beginning, there were the skins manufactured by some iPhone enthusiasts a few days after Steve Jobs presented the handset during its keynote at MacWorld. Those skins made Apple so angry that it made them put their lawyers hunt
some of the people involved in spreading them across the web on numerous website.

Unfortunately for Apple, that was the exact thing that added the extra publicity it needed to spread on even more websites, virtually making Apple’s efforts to remove the skins (and even the screenshots representing the skins) from the websites that hosted them to prove futile.

One on top of the other, although they didn’t add any kind of functionality to the Pocket PC devices, the skins were distinctly resembling the user interface of the iPhone.

Namco Networks today released Ms. Pac-Man for the video iPod via the iTunes Store for $4.99.

The release coincides with the 25th anniversary of the once-popular video game. Ms. Pac-Man is the companion to the original Pac-Man, which saw its debut when premium iPod games were first released in September, 2006. This marks the second Namco game to be produced for the video iPod.

In Ms. Pac-Man, you navigate the title character around four different mazes as she’s chased by ghosts. Ms. Pac-Man must gobble all the pellets on the screen to proceed to the next level. Specially placed “power pellets” enable her to turn the tables on the ghosts temporarily, allowing her to “chomp” them and send them back home.

The game features 256 maze levels and the “coffee break” animated intervals available in the original coin-op arcade game. What’s more, the iPod version also features arcade game cabinet art and a tutorial level. You can listen to the original game sounds and music while playing. [via]

Lots of people are amazed at the iPhone’s features that enable it to run Mac OS X widgets and have probably thought about themselves being capable to migrate the Vista gadgets they have on the OS sidebar (or scattered across their home desktop) onto their Pocket PCs running Windows Mobile.

If this is your case you can take a break, relax and stop trying
to do it on yourself because, according to Mel Sampat, which is a Windows Mobile Program Manager, Microsoft is already working on it.

The word spread around the web beginning with Laura Foy’s article on the on10.net website, which has attached a video demonstration of how the program developed by Mel Sampat and his team works like. At the moment, from what we can see and as Sampat says, this software is only a proof of concept and it isn’t capable of running the gadgets on the home screen of the Pocket PC device (only on separate windows) but, again as he mentioned, they are working on it to make it look good and to be ready for a future public release (to be read as bug-free as possible).
